“The Art of Natural History” Highlights from the Josephine Michell Arader Collection
thru April 14
Historically, the practice of natural history is what birthed the natural sciences. Art was a means to communicate observations of nature in all its beauty, though red in tooth and claw.
In this exhibition, the Natural History Institute is proud to present a selection of prints from the Josephine Michell Arader collection. These are historically significant natural history prints from the 16th to 19th century age of exploration and discovery. These prints highlight the work of nine artists depicting what was at the time newly-discovered flora and fauna. Featured are some of the most famous practitioners of traditional natural history art: John James Audubon, Mark Catesby, John Gould, Maria Sibylla Merian, Pierre-Joseph Redouté, and others.
Join us as we celebrate art and science with these historical works.
The use of face masks inside the building is recommended
